One Of Them There Gnomes...

Happy: Last night's benefit concert for Room In The Inn. It was in Christ Church Cathedral downtown, which I had never been in but will now call one of the most beautiful cathedrals I've been to. Loved the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble, Emmylou, John Cowan, but the highlight was John Prine and his heartbreaking "Hello In There". Him singing in that gorgeous space, accompanied by just acoustic guitar and upright bass, with the perfect acoustics and the perfectly silent crowd was one the most beautiful snippets of live music I've ever experienced.

Sad: The other day a patient said that I reminded her of a gnome.
"A gnome?" I asked, clearly mishearing.
"Yes, a gnome! You know," she continued, astounded of my ignorance, "one of them there garden things. That's what you remind me of." She then proceeded to laugh and laugh.
"Well, you remind me of someone who isn't going to get any pain medication." That's what I thought. Not what I said. Or did. She was very senile and not far from death. That would have been mean. Gnomes aren't mean.

Indifferent: Recent celebrity divorces from Brit and K-Fed, and Pam and Kid Rock. The homosexuals should rest easy: The heteros are doing a good job of destroying the sanctity of marriage all on their own.

Happy: NBC Thursday night: The Office + Scrubs. Comedy heaven. Tonight's highlight was Kevin karaoking to Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know".
