The Office
Best moments from the season finale:
1. Michael: "Your advice was good, but Jan's was bigger."
2. Creed: "Swing low, sweet chariot."
3. Stanley: "The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns."
4. Pam's expression of surprise and happiness at the end.
5. Ryan in the final scene.
The Sopranos
Not sure how many others in this tiny tiny blogosphere watch this show, but I'm kind of sad there are only a couple of episodes left. Very harsh, very complex drama, and I love the character of Tony Soprano. The scene in Sunday night's episode where he has just saved his son from a botched suicide attempt in the backyard pool was completely heartbreaking and so emotional it was hard to watch. Later on, he completely beats the crap out of another mobster for crassly hitting on his daughter. Also painful to watch, but in a different sort of way (the poor guy's jaw - ouch!). James Gandolfini is just a terrific terrific actor. I can't wait to see how the show ends, but I'm pretty sure no one comes out happy.
Scrubs
Unfortunately, this show's a bit past its prime. However, two hugely random and absurd (so absurd they won't be funny typed) scenes made me laugh hard (loud, annoying laughter with tears). One involved the Janitor and his conversation with a goldfish he was holding in a bowl. The second involved Dr. Kelso being swept off his feet by an Asian woman as a Vietnamese-language "Up Where We Belong" played in the background. See? Typed out, not very funny. But onscreen: beyond hilarious.
Lost
Wow. If you're one of those who strayed away from this show during the first half Others-torture-Kate/Jack/Sawyer/-every-weekathon and haven't been watching, well, basically you're a loser. The second half of the season, especially the half dozen or so episodes leading up to the finale, make this show simply the best thing on tv, by a large margin. The writing, acting, the whole mythology, nothing else comes close. I was kind of wondering, up until the last five minutes of the finale, how they would stretch it out over three more seasons, but now I'm no longer worried that the show will devolve into X-Files style meaningless. A few thoughts about the finale:
1. If this was really not a Jack flashback, but rather a flashforward, how is Jack's father still alive? The use of a Razr phone suggests it was the future (the show is set in 2004). However, with this whole alternate universe thing... Also, what happens to Jack to make him so desperate to go back?
2. Didn't Charlie have enough time to close the door from the other side? Cool death, anyway. I shall miss the hobbit.
3. Now I know that ghosts can go through puberty just like real boys. Walt done found him some testosterone.
4. Crazy John Locke. What are you up to?
5. Yeah for Hurley saving the day when everyone thought he'd be a liability.
6. I think Ben is right. The people coming to the island are very bad.
7. The obvious question: Who's in the casket, and what significance is there to it?
8. I hate that I have to wait until February to get answers. Well, probably not answers, but more questions. Still, what a great show.
