Randomisity

-Another birthday has come and gone. It was good even though I was on call the actual big day. Most of my b-days are low-key, which I enjoy. As long as I get taken out to dinner I'm pretty happy, and it happened a couple of times. Free food = mission accomplished. I also get cards and calls from friends whom I have no idea when their birthday is. That makes them a better friend than me. I should work on that.

-We went hiking on Saturday and saw at least three alligators, though none, sadly, at life-threatening distances. The trail guide said if they opened their mouths and hissed then you were too close, and that was pretty much the end of you.

-My top 5 movies of 2007 (after giving the topic about 30 seconds of thought):

• 5. Into The Wild: A great movie about a stupid, selfish, arrogant kid. Makes the list pretty much because of any scene with Hal Holbrook. Could he have been any sadder?
• 4. Ratatouille: Pixar can do no wrong.
• 3. Michael Clayton: Some of the best acting seen in a movie this year.
• 2. Sweeney Todd: Didn't think a musical could be this intense, or scary, or very very graphic. I was wrong.
• 1. No Country For Old Men: Not a musical - in fact, there's basically no music at all - but still intense and scary. Best Coen Bros. movie since forever. I even loved the ending.

- With the writer's strike, there is really no reason to turn on my television until Thursday, January 31st, at 8 pm. When I'm at home I've been doing other obscure things like reading and practicing guitar and studying. Part of me hopes the strike goes on indefinitely; I probably don't need television as much as I think I do.
